Outpatient Clinics

The Metabolic service is provide as an outpatient clinic and this means that all our patients are routinely seen in our outpatient clinic in relation to their metabolic condition, and in the interim, their GP will manage any unrelated ongoing problems.

Our outpatient clinics are held in several areas of the hospital which will be indicated on your clinic appointment letter sent by our department before your visit.

Upon your arrival to your clinic appointment you will have your height, weight and blood pressure checked by one of our nurses.

You will have a consultation with the doctor or advanced clinical practitioner and you may have other members of the team involved in the consultation such as, Physiotherapist, Dietitian, Pharmacist and Nurse. A physical examination may need to be carried out.

After the consultation you may see another member of the team separately for further assessment.

We currently have four consultants in our department. During your time in clinic you will usually be seen by a consultant, however some patients may be asked to come to clinic specifically to see the Dietitian, Nurse or Physiotherapist and in this case these patients may not see a doctor unless any issues are raised that need to be addressed specifically by a medic.

A blood and urine sample may be required during your clinic appointment.

You may be required to have some other tests to be carried out on the same day e.g. x-ray or ECG.

If you have any questions about our outpatient services then please do not hesitate to contact the office during our working hours of 9am till 5pm.

Joint Clinics

The Metabolic department works closely with many other specialities due to the complexity of some of our patients. We run joint clinics, with nephrology, cardiology, neurology, rheumatology, and endocrinology which are usually held every three months.

Patients are allocated into these clinics when the doctor feels that they need shared care to provide the patient with the expertise required.

We work closely with many professionals including Dr.Mark Roberts (Consultant Neurologist) Dr Chi (ENT Consultant), Dr Hackett (Consultant Neuropsychiatrist) Dr Rajan (Pain Consultant) and Dr Tol (Consultant Anaesthetist).
