About the Service - Renal

The Renal team predominantly support patients with kidney disease. We recognise that kidney disease can have a major impact on peoples’ lives and it can be hard to deal with at times. This might include accepting a diagnosis and adjusting to the subsequent lifestyle changes. It might also include adjusting to the treatments you require, and medical procedures which may make you feel anxious or upset. We provide support to help people address any challenges or barriers they are experiencing with the diagnosis and treatment, or to work through any feelings of depression, anxiety or anger about what is happening to you.

The Renal team also provide assessments for individuals considering donating a kidney. Any live donors are offered the opportunity to meet with a psychologist for a psychology assessment. This is to ensure people understand the process of donation, including any potential risks, and to explore any concerns or uncertainties they may have about it. We will also consider whether any additional support is required for that individual if they go ahead with donation.
