This section provides directions, how to get to the ward area and details visiting times.

Directions

Stott Lane / Outpatients

From Stott Lane

  • Go through entrance by Stott Lane
  • Take the stairs or the lift up to the 1st floor
    • If you have taken the stairs turn left
    • If you have taken the lift turn left away from the B wards [blue area]
  • Follow the signs to the Hope Building down the main corridor 
  • Turn right at the ‘rotunda’ near the Mayo Building down the corridor to the main Hope Building atrium
  • In the main atrium, take the stairs or the lift to the 3rd floor
  • Follow the steps described below "3rd Floor, Hope Building" 

 

Hope Building

From Eccles Old Road 

  • Go through the main doors, beneath the yellow fin [pictured]
  • In the main atrium, take the stairs or the lift to the 3rd floor
  • Follow the steps described below "3rd Floor, Hope Building" 

 

Critical Care, level 3 Hope building

3rd Floor, Hope Building

  • At the top of the stairs turn left, or
  • If you have taken the lift turn right
  • Walk over the bridge to the doorway
  • Critical Care One (Surgical HDU, Neuro HDU), turn right and take the first double door on your left (yellow floor panel)
  • Critical Care Two (Intensive Care Unit), turn left and take the first double door on your right (yellow floor panel)

Information

Standard Visiting Times 

The standard visiting times for the Critical Care areas are:

  • Critical Care One (Surgical HDU, Neuro HDU):          

    • 2pm-4pm, 6:30pm-8pm

  • Critical Care Two (Intensive Care Unit, ICU):               

    • 2pm-8pm

 

There may be circumstances when patients may have visitors outside of these visiting times; this will be agreed with the staff on the unit.

 

Access & Waiting Areas

Access to the Critical Care area is via the reception desk/waiting area – there is a reception desk and waiting area for each of Critical Care One and Critical Care Two.  During the day, the doors from the corridor are open and reception staff will assist you. Out of hours, the doors to the reception desk and waiting area are locked and you should use the video entry device by the door. Press on the button and a member of staff will attend to you as soon as possible.

 

Please note that we request that no more than two visitor are at the bedside at any given time.  Relatives/visitors who are waiting will be asked to wait in the waiting area.

 

Keypad access

Within the reception/waiting area, by the entrance door to the Critical Care clinical area, there is a keypad panel. If you know the bed number of the patient you wish to visit please key in this number which will ring the phone at the patient’s bed. The patient's nurse will come and greet you at the door, or release the door and meet you when you when come inside the unit.

 

If you do not know the number, or have forgotten, please press the HELP button. A member of staff will attend to you as soon as possible.
