Antonia Kirkby Antonia Kirkby (Dr) Consultant Clinical Neuropsychologist Dr Kirkby completed a Neuroscience degree at Manchester University before pursuing a career in Clinical Psychology. She completed her Clinical Psychology doctorate at Manchester University in 2003 and has worked as a Clinical Neuropsychologist at the Greater Manchester Neurosciences Centre since this time, specialising in the neuropsychological assessment and rehabilitation of adult neurology and neurosurgery patients. In 2006 Dr Kirkby obtained the post-doctoral specialist qualification in Clinical Neuropsychology (QiCN). She is a member of the Specialist Register of Clinical Neuropsychologists and the Directory of Expert Witnesses. Antonia has particular interests in Movement Disorders and Deep Brain Stimulation, and Functional Neurological Disorders including Non-Epileptic Attack Disorder, and conducts research in these areas. Antonia lectures and is a Supervisor on the Clinical Psychology Doctoral training courses in the Northwest.
Cliff Chen Cliff Chen (Dr) Clinical Neuropsychologist Dr Chen completed his Bachelor of Science (BSc honours) in Psychology at the University of Edinburgh, where he won the British Psychological Society’s (BPS) Undergraduate award for Psychology (2006). He gained his Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (DClinPsy) at the University of Oxford (2012), and is currently undertaking his Postgraduate Diploma (PGDip) in Clinical Neuropsychology at the University of Glasgow. Past research projects include studies on verbal and spatial memory, and the cognitive correlates of eating disorders in men. He has worked in a variety of settings, including Clinical Neuropsychology departments at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, Frenchay Hospital in Bristol, and in Neuro-rehabilitation at the Oxford Centre for Enablement.
Gita Rana Gita Rana Assistant Neurology Psychologist Gita obtained her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from The University of Manchester. Gita previously worked as an assistant psychologist in paediatrics and as a research psychologist on a longitudinal study looking at the effects of Infant Formula Supplementation With Long-chain Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids on neuro-development. Gita has also completed some research looking at subliminal priming and effects of hand dominance and developmental changes in motor control.
Helen Caswell Helen Caswell (Dr) Consultant Clinical Neuropsychologist, Joint Head of Department Dr Helen Caswell gained an honours degree in Psychology at the University of Dundee and subsequently completed her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the University of Manchester in 2001. She was awarded a postgraduate diploma in Clinical Neuropsychology with merit from Kings College, London in 2003 and is a Practitioner Full Member of the Division of Neuropsychology. Dr Caswell is appointed as Joint Head of Department and as lead clinician for neuropsychology services to neurology. She has a special interest in epilepsy. She is an elected member of council for the British Epilepsy Association and a member of the BEA research committee. Dr Caswell regularly supervises trainee clinical psychologists and lectures on the doctorate courses. She has an established record of publications in peer-reviewed journals. Her research interests include the neuropsychological aspects of epilepsy and brain tumours.
James Thompson James Thompson (Dr) Clinical Neuropsychologist Dr Thompson obtained a BSc in Psychology and an MSc in Cognitive Neuroscience from the University of Liverpool before completing his doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the University of Manchester. During his doctorate he was fortunate enough to complete a Specialist Placement with Professor Adrian Wells: a leading authority in both Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Metacognitive Therapy. Dr Thompson Works primarily in the Non-Epileptic Attack Disorder Service and also takes cases from the general Neuropsychology Waiting list. He is currently completing the Postgraduate diploma in Clinical Neuropsychology at the University of Glasgow. His research interests include medically unexplained symptoms, neurorehabilitation, and metacognitive therapy for mental health conditions. He has publications in the British Journal of Neurosurgery (for which he also occasionally reviews articles at the request of the editor) and the Journal of Neuropsychological Rehabilitation.
Jane Lawton Jane Lawton (Dr) Clinical Neuropsychologist Dr Jane Lawton gained her Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Psychology in 2001 and completed a research masters (MPhil) in 2003. She worked as an assistant psychologist in substance misuse and child and adolescent services before completing her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (DClinPsy) in 2007. After qualifying she worked in Community Mental Health Teams for adults as well as briefly working abroad. Dr Lawton is currently the lead clinical psychologist for the Alcohol Assertive Outreach Team which offers assistance to people attending Accident and Emergency as a result of alcohol.
Jessica Twigg Jessica Twigg Assistant Psychologist Jessica has gained a Bachelor of Science (BSc Hons) degree in Psychology at the University of Salford, graduating in 2012. Jessica has worked on neuro-rehabilitation and stroke rehabilitation wards here at Salford Royal and has also spent some time working as an honorary assistant psychologist on the Trauma Rehabilitation Unit.
Keira O'Dell Keira O'Dell Cognitive and Behavioural Therapist Keira completed her Bachelor of Science (BSc Hons) degree in Psychology at Liverpool John Moores University in 2004 before working as an Assistant Psychologist in Adult Mental Health for Pennine Care NHS. She completed a Post-Graduate Diploma (PGdip) in Medical Neuropsychology in 2006. Following this, Keira worked as a Psychological Practitioner whilst completing a Post Graduate Certificate (PGcert) in Primary Care Mental Health whist also working towards her MSc in Psychology. Keira qualified as a Cognitive and Behavioural Therapist in 2012 after completing a Post Graduate Diploma (PGDip) in Cognitive and Behaviour Therapy from the University of Lancaster. Succeeding the completion of her training; Keira has worked across the Manchester and Pennine area as a Cognitive and Behaviour Therapist and is a member of The British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP). Keira now works within the Neuropsychology team at Salford Royal and specialises in Non-Epileptic Attack Disorder.
Lisa Moorhouse Lisa Moorhouse Assistant Psychologist Lisa gained her Bachelor of Science (BSc Hons) degree in Psychology from Sheffield University in 2012. Lisa has previously worked as an assistant psychologist in a Memory Assessment and Treatment Service, and an Older Adult Community Mental Health Team in Salford.
Lyn Pickup Lyn Pickup Secretary I have worked in the department of Neuropsychology for 6 years; I enjoy this varied and challenging role, no two days are the same. I love the diversity and challenged that working here bring. In my spare time I enjoy socialising with friends and family, shopping, chocolate and travel but maybe not in that order!
