Neurological Rehabilitation

The Clinical Neuropsychology Service on Wards C2 and B4, the Stroke Rehabilitation Unit and the Trauma Assessment Unit provides support to patients who are in the early stages of recovery following traumatic brain injury, Stroke, neurosurgery or neurology treatment.

The Clinical Neuropsychologists work very closely with other members of the rehabilitation team on the ward including physiotherapists, occupational therapists, nurses and medical doctors.

In order to achieve the maximum benefit of rehabilitation in the early stages of recovery, the Clinical Neuropsychology service provides:-

  • Cognitive assessment and rehabilitation. This aims to determine patients’ strengths and weaknesses in their thinking processes and indicate the best ways of helping patients to develop their mental abilities
  • Behavioural support. Some patients may require help to modify their behaviour so that they can get the most out of the therapy and care being offered to them on the ward.
  • Emotional support. Patients and their families often experience considerable emotional difficulties following their illness or injuries. The Clinical Neuropsychology service aims to support patients and families who are suffering from anxiety, low mood and other emotional problems.
