Video Telemetry

The Neuropsychology Service offers assessment and follow up for patients who have been referred for video telemetry.

Video telemetry is an assessment used to further investigate conditions such as epilepsy and non-epileptic attack disorder. Patients may be referred for this assessment before they are diagnosed to help the neurologist understand their condition better, or following diagnosis, for example, if a patient is considering surgery for epilepsy. Video telemetry involves monitoring electrical signals from the brain using EEG whilst recording a video of behaviour that may be a seizure.

Neuropsychological assessment of cognitive abilities such as memory and emotional issues can assist the neurologist in diagnosing and understanding the condition. Neuropsychological assessments are usually offered to patients just before their admission for video telemetry and may also be undertaken during the inpatient stay.
